I’m Beatrice, the face behind OPAL Design House. I started my business in October of 2024 with one goal: to build a creative life on my own terms. I feel most like myself when I'm drawing, painting, or clicking around in Illustrator. You could say I was born to be a designer.

The name Opal took some time to figure out, but I chose it because its personal to me. The opal stone is represented in October, the coziest and richest month of the year. It also is my favorite month of the year. My grandmother, from whom I get my artistic abilities, was born in October. You could say Opal is a nod to her and her beautiful paintings.

 

Another deciding factor for using Opal in my business name was my favorite childhood movie, Because of Winn-Dixie. The movie follows a young, independent girl named Opal and her scruffy dog, who becomes her best friend. There's something about Opal's free spirit and optimism that has always resonated with me. 

 

I started Opal Design House with the intention to transform spaces with paint, a medium so simple and yet so powerful. Every piece is rooted in nostalgia, storytelling, and a deep love for making things by hand. This work is my way of honoring where I come from while creating something lasting for others.
